East Coker C.P. School is the first Somerset primary to be awarded the ActiveMark Gold Award from Sport England.
The award was presented by Mark Drew of Sport England, and actor Trevor Peacock, who lives in the area.
Deputy head Iain Crabtree, who organises much of the sport at the school, received the award and praised colleagues for their hard work.
The ActiveMark Award was introduced to encourage sport and physical activities. Schools going a step further and qualifying for the Gold version, are deemed to have done an extremely good job by offering a wide range of activities.
Head teacher Peter Sweetlove was extremely pleased as the award recognises the commitment and dedication of Iain and his fellow colleagues.
"The school believes passionately in the development of the whole child and recognises the vital part sport and physical activity play in this development," Mr Sweetlove commented.
