NO job is too small for Williton firefighters – and that includes four-year-old Arthur Christian’s finger when it accidentally got stuck in a plastic shopfront fitting in the village last week.

Carhampton public house reopened as four generations of family return to rootsWhen Arthur’s grandfather, an off-duty Williton fireman, failed to free the tiny finger using washing-up liquid and ice, he called up his colleagues and help arrived in minutes.
A Devon and Somerset Fire Service spokesman said the drama began after Arthur, his mother and grandfather had been fossil-hunting on the beach.
“While they were ordering coffee from a local shop, Arthur managed to get his finger stuck in a small ring attached to the shopfront. When the little pinkie was getting swollen and red our colleague made the right decision to call in the fire service and Arthur was soon freed.”
Arthur’s mother, Alice, later told firefighters: “We can’t thank you enough. He enjoyed telling his friends and teachers that he met all the firemen who helped him. Let’s hope he has learned his lesson.”
And the fire service spokesman added: “No-one should hesitate to call on us for help. It’s what we’re here for.”
