FIREFIGHTERS from five West Somerset towns were called to a blaze in a home on Exmoor on Monday evening.

The alert was sounded shortly after 7.30 pm when the bungalow, in Higher Park Lane, Cutcombe, Wheddon Cross, began to fill with smoke.

Three fire engines from Minehead, Dulverton, and Williton were at first sent to the scene, where the crews discovered the property was smoke logged.

A further crew from Porlock was then requested as well as a command unit from the Wiveliscombe station to tackle the incident.

They used six sets of breathing apparatus, two 46-foot ladders and a short extension ladder, four main jets, one safety jet, two hose reel jets, a thermal imaging camera, and some small tools.

The bungalow was was 30 per cent damaged by fire and also suffered 50 per cent smoke damage.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the cause of the fire was accidental.
