A SOMERSET man was this week continuing his recovery in a local hospital after he was badly injured in a holiday car crash in Portugal.
Family and friends of Finn Webber, aged 23, of Combwich, raised nearly £56,000 in an online appeal to fly him back to the UK.
Finn had been in a coma in a Portuguese hospital after he was cut free from the wreckage suffering head injuries and a broken leg and dislocated hip.
On his return to the UK he was treated in Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, and Southmead Hospital, Bristol.
Now, Finn has been transferred to the Somerset neurological rehabilitation centre in the Dene Barton hospital unit, Cotford St Luke.
His mother Alessia, known as Ali, said in an online message: “He is improving and impressing us and his medical team with his progression.
“He has started to smile more, and every day we see a bit more of his cheeky personality shining through.
“He still gets very tired and confused at times and his short-term memory needs a lot of work, but he remembers all of his friends and really enjoys when we read your messages of support, so please keep them coming.”
Mrs Webber said Finn’s recovery in Dene Barton was likely to continue until early December.
She said his brother and sister Sam, aged 18, and 15-year-old Isobel, who suffered broken bones in the crash, were also improving, although ‘a little frustrated’ with not being able to get around as much.
All six members of the Webber family were injured when an oil tanker crashed into the two cars in which they were travelling.
