FIREFIGHTERS from Williton and Taunton spent almost two days fighting a blaze at Bridge Farm, in Williton, over the weekend. Hay bales stored in an area known as the Old Dairy self-ignited on Saturday, meaning Williton firefighters had to make a sharp exit from their display at the village fete to attend the blaze. The crew spent six hours at the farm on Saturday before handing over to a relief crew from Taunton. The Taunton firefighters remained at the farm overnight and during Sunday morning and left when they believed the fire had been put out. But the flames took hold again on Sunday afternoon and the Williton crew was called back again and spent a further four hours extinguishing the blaze. In all, the retained firefighters from Williton had some 17 call-outs over the weekend.
