THE cost of extending a 30mph speed limit in Timberscombe had been put at about £3,500, parish councillors were told.
It follows allegations from a resident about speeding and dangerous driving through the village.
Parish clerk Lesley Webb reported she had spoken to county highways officers and to the police about the matter. She said the county council had agreed to carry out speed checks on Bickham bend to assess the situation, although there was no record of accidents occurring on the stretch of road.
The matter could be discussed again once the results of the speed checks were received.

The cost for the parish council of buying its own SID would be between £2,000 and £3,000 depending on the style of machine, and public support for it would need to be demonstrated.
‘Twenty is Plenty’ signs had provoked a wide range of reactions in the village and county highways had told the parish council to remove them because they were considered a distraction for motorists.
Police had also suggested horse riders should wear head/body cameras because the footage from the devices could help to bring prosecutions against inconsiderate drivers.
Councillors heard all the signage around the village had now been cleared and a horse sign had been renewed at Cowbridge.
