WILLITON firefighter Erin Fairhead is aiming to become the fastest woman ever to run a marathon in full fire kit.

When Erin takes part in the London Marathon on Sunday (April 24), she will be running for a place in the Guinness Book of Records and raising money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

Erin, 37, said: “I love running and when I first started as a firefighter two years ago, I had an idea that one day I would like to run a marathon in full fire kit.

“I have seen colleagues benefit from the charity and I felt it only right to do this run for them and I hope to raise lots of money for their work.”

Erin has run a marathon before but the fire kit – boots, helmet and leggings – will make the run much hotter and she is aiming for a finishing time of around four and a half hours.

The time she has to beat for a place in the record books is five hours 38 minutes.
