DUNSTER Castle and its Watermill have rolled back the clock to provide visitors with the magic of a country Christmas based on the traditions of the Luttrell family who owned the castle for more than 600 years.
From now until January 4, the National Trust’s iconic building is being transformed on selected days into a festive image of another age with towering Christmas trees, natural garlands, and seasonal decorations throughout the historic rooms.
On weekends leading up to Christmas visitors can enjoy live music performances and from December 13 to 21 the castle will open after dark for a special illuminated experience.
Last entry is 7.15 pm.
Inside the castle, visitors can explore the decorated rooms.
Young visitors can enjoy toys and games in the Morning Room, listen to festive storytelling, or hunt for knitted robins hidden around the castle.

For a glimpse of Christmas below stairs, the Servants’ Hall - rarely open to the public – has been dressed for a festive scene.
Visitor operations and experience manager Paul Fry said: “Christmas at Dunster Castle is a truly special time.
“We are excited to extend our opening hours and offer even more opportunities for visitors to enjoy the magic of the season.
“Whether you are coming for the lights, the music, or simply to soak up the atmosphere, there is something for everybodyto enjoy.”.
On December 6 and 7, visitors can meet real reindeer on Green Court.
Father Christmas will also be making appearances on selected dates between December 13 and 21 to share Christmas wishes and hand out gifts to children, for which booking is essential.
During the Christmas period, the Watermill Tearoom is serving classic festive treats and mulled wine.
