A GENEROUS £900 was raised for food banks in and around West Somerset at a recent choir singing event.

The event was held at the Tithe Barn, in Dunster, and welcomed a community of choirs from Tiverton, Taunton and Minehead.

The three choirs performed on Saturday (March 23) afternoon for two hours where singing, poetry and laughter filled the barn.

The money raised will be donated to a number of food banks in the area, including in Minehead, Taunton and Tiverton. Sally O'Connell, who attended the event, said: “I really enjoyed it - there was a real feeling of community.”

The occasion saw the Community Choir from Ilminster travel to take part in the event.

Avril Childs, from the Street Choir, appreciated the ample supply of tea and cake at the event, and said: "What a lovely afternoon. We really enjoyed it. And a shout out to the brilliant team in the kitchen."

Traveling from Devon, singers from Tivvy Voices Community Choir also took part and contributed with performances.
