THE Simonsbath Spring Fling Country Show on Bank Holiday Monday, May 25, will be held in memory of Shelley Barlow, a much-loved member of the Exmoor farming community who dreamed up and organised the event, but died suddenly last November, aged 37.
A spokesperson for the event said: “We hope people will join us for a wonderful day of family fun which will raise funds for urgent repair work needed on Simonsbath Church and for Brain Research UK.
“Every moment of the day will be a tribute to Shelley, her spirit, her strength, and the lasting impact she had on those around her.
“This event honours her legacy.”
The show will be on the ‘Big Hill’ at Simonsbath with views over the River Barle.
The spokesperson said: “Bring your friends and family, pack a picnic, or enjoy delicious food available on-site, and experience a fantastic day out in this stunning countryside location.”
“Bring your dogs and ponies and join us for a truly special day for all ages.
“There will be something for everybody to enjoy:”
The show runs from 11 am to 10 pm and a wide variety of events will include mounted fancy dress and a gymkhana with bending, potato, and mug races.
There will also be a dog agility competition and a family dog show with classes including the best working dog, the most troublesome terrier, and the dog most like its owner.
Another highlight of the day will be the ‘Tough Farmer Challenge’ when teams of four tackle a demanding obstacle course.
Other attractions will include a red deer antler competition, vintage tractors, bouncy castle, duck race, a DJ throughout the evening, cream teas, barbecue, bar, and refreshments.
Ringside picnic areas will be available to book in advance.
