A NEW challenge for residents and visitors to discover and enjoy 25 of Exmoor’s most iconic attractions was launched to celebrate Exmoor Day on Monday (October 19), which is the anniversary of the moor’s designation as a national park.

Organised by tourism organisation Visit Exmoor, the Exmoor Day Challenge is designed to attract more people to the moor to discover somewhere new and experience more of what Exmoor has to offer.

This includes the area’s spectacular landscapes, wildlife, coastline, heritage, communities, and a wide range of hospitality.

Among the 25 challenges which participants can tick off are, crossing a ford, spotting an Exmoor pony, enjoying a cream tea, finding an ancient stone bridge, and walking across Tarr Steps.

The challenge is designed to be flexible, with people encouraged to complete as many activities as they wish on Exmoor Day itself and continue to discover further Exmoor delights on subsequent days or weekends.

Visit Exmoor chief executive Emma Thomasson said: “Exmoor Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate everything that makes this area so special.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have such extraordinary landscapes, beautiful coastline, fantastic local produce, and wonderful towns and villages, all supported by the people and businesses who make Exmoor what it is.

“This year, we wanted to do something a little different and encourage everybody to get out and experience Exmoor for themselves.

“Whether you live here, visit regularly, or are discovering Exmoor for the first time, our 25 challenges offer plenty of inspiration.

“You do not need to complete all 25 challenges.

“Just get involved, have some fun, and share what you love about Exmoor.”

Challenge sheets can be printed or saved to a mobile, with activities ticked off activities as they are achieved.

The challenge can be downloaded and more information about how to become involved can be found on Visit Exmoor’s website.
