THE past three terms have seen Sue Fletcher, recorder and flute teacher at Dunster First School, preparing a group of children for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music’s music medals assessments.
The Year 4 pupils had to play an individual line in an ensemble piece for two players, followed by a solo piece, and then had to show their musicianship in a “call and response” exercise.
On the day of the assessment for their Copper Music Medal, the children’s performances were videoed, marked by Mrs Fletcher and sent off to the board for moderation.
And after a nervous few weeks, the school found out that all of the 12 children had passed, and their certificates were awarded in assembly last Friday.
