IT was sunshine and smiles all round as the new King Edward Road Nursery opened in Minehead on Monday (April 3).

Over 20 children attended the first ever session after nursery manager Shelley Hooper and her team put in many hours work to get it up and running for the start of April, with help and donations from parents and local businesses.

“It was a perfect first day – no tears and lovely weather,” said Shelley.

The new nursery, catering for children from three months to two years, is owned and operated by the West Somerset Academies Trust, and Ofsted carried out a pre-opening Inspection in March.

“We passed with flying colours,” said Paul Rushforth, chief executive officer of the trust.

“Trustees are delighted to be opening this wonderful facility and the trust has invested significant funds in building refurbishment and purchasing nursery resources and equipment.”

The new nursery is a partner with Seashells, which caters for children over two, and also part of the trust’s six schools.
