TRIBUTES were paid at this year's annual general meeting of Dunster Show to outgoing chairman Edward Down.

He has retired from the position after 24 years - the longest serving chairman of the show society.

A full turnout of committee members and friends at the Luttrell Arms Hotel in Dunster was present to mark the occasion and see him hand over to his successor, Roger Richmond from Washford, who has been a vice-chairman and committee member for several years.

Phillip Browne, this year's president, thanked Mr Down for his commitment, dedication and hard work both during show week and beforehand, and also thanked Mr Down's wife Sheila for all her help and support.

A bouquet was presented to Mrs Down and a fishing break for both Edward and Sheila to enjoy by secretary Rebecca Langdon. A cake organised by Sarah Richmond was cut and a toast made.

Mr Down will be greatly missed as chairman but will remain involved with the show, helping with both publicity and sponsorship.

Paul Toogood of the Luttrell Arms was appointed next year's president.
