SIR — Referring to the report on the proposed new supermarket for Williton (Free Press February 19), I live in Nether Stowey and use our village shops.

Once a fortnight I visit Williton's recycling centre and village. I then park in the centre of the village.

I use the pharmacy, the pet shop, the greengrocers and am spoiled for choice between the Co-op and the newly refurbished Spar.

Then there is the butchers for local meat, game and fresh fish.

All these facilities are contained in an area not much larger than the average supermarket.

Surely Mr Gliddon does not wish to kill 'the goose that laid the golden egg'.

His scheme will ruin this bustling town.

Mrs S E Stacey,

St Mary Street,

Nether Stowey.
