NEWLY-elected Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens will be in Minehead next Wednesday (January 30) to hear local views on future policing.

Residents, community groups, businesses and victims of crime will all get the chance to have their say on the first police and crime plan.

In a new move, individual plans are being drawn up for each of the six policing districts in the force area, including the largest, Somerset West, which in addition to West Somerset covers Taunton Deane and Sedgemoor.

Ms Mountstevens will be touring all the districts during January and February.

"It is really important that residents tell me what is important to them so it becomes our police and crime plan," she said.

"Everybody who makes up Avon and Somerset, whether they live or work in the area, will all have a view.

"I would particularly like to hear from the people that would not normally respond to surveys - the quiet voices - because policing and crime affects us all."

Ms Mountstevens said each of the district plans would set out a vision for the local area following consultation with local people.

"Policing and crime affects us all and only by working together and tackling the priorities that matter to people can we make Avon and Somerset be safe and feel safe."

The meeting will be held in the Minehead Customer Contact Centre in Summerland Road from 10am to noon.

Online consultation for the plan was launched last month at http://www.consultation.avonandsomerset.police.uk">www.consultation.avonandsomerset.police.uk and printed surveys are available in local libraries or by calling 01275 816377.

The consultation closes on February 22.
