MUSIC has its charms, but not when discarded instruments are fly-tipped along with other assorted electrical goods on Minehead’s North Hill.

Retired Minehead resident Peter Theakston discovered the dumped rubbish near a cattle-grid halfway along the hill-top road at the weekend while on a walk with his dog.

“I called the Holnicote office of the National Trust and, when I was walking on the hill on Tuesday, they were loading the stuff into a truck,” Peter said.

“I was very impressed by their efficiency but they shouldn’t have to deal with things like that.”

The discarded goods included two electric guitars, a toaster, a microwave, a child’s buggy and a vacuum cleaner.

Peter added: “Surely it takes more effort to take stuff like that all the way to the middle of North Hill than to just drop it into the recycling centre?”

A spokesman for Exmoor National Park, which shares North Hill with the National Trust, said: “Litter and fly-tipping is a constant problem on North Hill.

“Fly-tipping is illegal and if anyone spots it taking place please phone the police on their non-emergency number 101 and report it.”
