WILLITON police are warning local people about a bogus lonely heart who has already conned one person out of several thousand pounds. A person claiming to be an interior designer called Jane Fitzpatrick made email contact with a man through a legitimate dating site. The fraudsters claimed to be living abroad and took advantage of the person's vulnerability to scam them out of a large sum of money. PC John Hill, of Williton police station, said: "The method is to build a relationship of trust and a love scenario develops, via the sending of emails, with the victim becoming more and more emotionally involved upon the promise of the other person joining him in the UK and eventually marrying. "This is an attack on the vulnerable and gullible, leaving the loser with poor self-esteem and emotional distress - and, of course, financially bereft. "The final part of the fraud is to request the UK person's full bank details in order to repay back money sent. In no circumstances should anyone do this." Anyone who may have had contact with 'Jane Fitzpatrick' through a lonely hearts site should contact PC Hill in confidence by calling 101 and quoting crime reference number 48497/14.
