PUBLIC support for disabled Dan Sully has been so generous that he hit his crowdfunding target for a special wheelchair this week.
Dan, 35, needed help to buy a 4 x 4 wheelchair so he can train and show his miniature breed Dexter cows at Dunster Show this year. He last visited them six months ago when the chair he was using broke down and he could no longer go into their field.
So he launched a crowdfunding appeal, and helped by stories of its progress in the Free Press, his £3,500 target was reached in just a month - a last generous donation from a person who became a Facebook friend after hearing of Dan’s story took the appeal £20 over the target.
“We just sat there and thought it couldn’t be right, we kept looking at the figures, then Dan cheered the roof off,” said his mother Chrissy Beaver. “We’re still gobsmacked that we got there within 28 days and have got the wheelchair.”
Chrissy was full of praise for people’s encouragement and generosity, including Exeter Disability Centre which arranged to deliver the wheelchair even before the full total was raised – it is due to arrive today (Friday).
As soon as Dan gets used to driving the wheelchair, which has been specially adapted for him, he will be off up the hill to see his cows.
