PUPILS in St Peter’s Church of England First School, Williton, were treated to an exciting delivery last week when local building supplies firm CRS provided materials and craftsmanship to create a new guinea pig run for the school’s much‑loved pets.
Year four teacher and PE and humanities lead Catherine Gibbons had been exploring ways to give the school guinea pigs a more robust and comfortable space for their daily adventures.
One of her pupils, Teddy Kingdon, suggested contacting the Watchet branch of CRS to ask if it would be willing to support the project.
So, Miss Gibbons emailed branch manager Stuart Davies with the request, and to everybody’s delight, he not only agreed to donate the wood but also offered to have the guinea pig run professionally made.
The finished run was delivered by Mr Davies and his colleague Rob Harris, who had built it himself.
The year four pupils were thrilled to watch the delivery take place and were especially impressed by the quality of Mr Harris’s handiwork.
The CRS team positioned the run in place for the children, and the guinea pigs wasted no time settling in, spending an afternoon happily exploring their new space.
To show their appreciation, the children created a booklet of thanks for the CRS colleagues who helped to make it possible.
Headteacher Maida White said: “We are incredibly grateful to our local CRS branch for their kindness and community spirit.
“Their generosity means our school guinea pigs can live comfortably in a safe, spacious environment where children can enjoy seeing them up close.
“It is wonderful to have such support from a local business that truly values its role in helping our school community thrive.”
Schoolchildren were also due to walk to St Peter’s Church on Thursday (March 26) to take part in an Easter service, sharing poems, songs, and prayers.
