On his dismissal in the penultimate over young Joseph Smith then took the glory!

Carhampton

'Oldies' v

Carhampton

'Youngsters'

DUE to a league game cancellation this 50 over two innings a side inter club match was fiercely contested.

On a hat afternoon Carhampton's under 20s took on their more senior club colleges.

Batting first the senior team scored an impressive 162 in 25 overs thanks mainly to the top order batsmen contributing well. Roger Bowkett (39) was well supported by Chris Milton (37), before a quick fire 31 not out from John Tidboald posted a good first innings total.

In reply, the Youngsters slumped to 23-4 after some good bowling (A Hammond 3-8) before an impressive 43 from Mark Symes, ably supported by D Ketchen and W Cudmore, lifted the total to a respectable 126-8 from their 25 overs.

In their second innings the 'Oldies' struggled to score against some good line and length bowling from the youngsters (M Symes 3-10, P Hammond 3-22) and after being 76-6 after 17 overs P Sherring and C Hirons gave respectability to the score.

The Oldies ended their second innings on 127-8.

Having set the youngsters a tough target of 163 from their allotted overs the Youngsters made a poor start being 25-3, Matt Haywood 'bagging a pair'.

The Oldies looked to be in control at this stage but Matt Long rode his luck early on and then went on to hit a match winning unbeaten 78, Dan Pawson (63) giving him excellent support.
