POLICE in Watchet are calling for parents and guardians to be more aware of their children's whereabouts following a spate of vandalism, trespass and anti-social behaviour in the town. Officers said there had been "numerous complaints" about intimidating behaviour, minor criminal damage and 'nuisance' caused by children congregating in large groups under cover of darkness. And they warned they would be cracking down on anti-social behaviour, with increased patrols and a pledge to take "positive action" against anyone involved. Local beat officer PC Lisa Rigby said officers did not want to be killjoys, but some young people's behaviour was causing serious concerns among residents. She said: "We don't want to spoil all the fun but it has reached the stage now where the games played in the street by the youths are affecting the welfare of local residents. "Trespassing in gardens, damage and abusive language are regular occurrences and this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated. "Obviously, we understand that kids want to play and socialise, we are just asking them to keep to the designated recreational areas when possible and be more considerate about their actions."
