A plant supplying concrete to Hinkley Point C has been closed after coronavirus was confirmed there on Monday.
Balfour Beatty’s purpose-built site in Avonmouth, Bristol, was closed until further notice after 20 workers were found to have contracted the disease and a deep clean has since been carried out.
After discussions with Public Health England, a test and trace procedure has been implemented to identify anyone who has come into contact with the affected workers but has so far not involved personnel at the Hinkley site.
The Balfour Beatty facility builds concrete segments used in the nuclear plant’s construction and a spokesman said this week that the closure had not affected ongoing construction, decreased productivity or disrupted the supply chain.
