WATCHET teenager Sam Tapp has been honoured by the chairman of Somerset County Council for his "outstanding community contribution". Sam, aged 19, was presented with the Chairman's Award, the highest accolade bestowed by the county council on young people. He was picked from a group of 13 people from West Somerset who had previously won Somerset Young People's Awards. He was honoured for his work and commitment to Watchet Youth Club and for his role in organising trips and activities for club members. He received the accolade from Cllr Alan Gloak at Wednesday's meeting of the full county council. Sam said: "I'm really proud that Somerset County Council has chosen to recognise my efforts in this way. "Getting young people involved in the local community is something which I am passionate about and I hope this award will show others that participating in their community is something worth doing." Cllr Gloak said Sam's achievement was "really special". He added: "The county council delivers a massive range of services for children and young people and I am delighted that we can recognise the efforts of one outstanding young person in this way."
