WEST Somerset residents have been warned to be on their guard against yet another scam, this time involving cold calls claiming to be from a local authority. Both West Somerset Council and Minehead Town Council have urged people to report calls from anyone who claims to be acting on their behalf. West Somerset Council said people had been upset by a persistent caller who was trying to find out information about an incident. Another has been claiming to be from Minehead Town Council and claims people owed the authority money. In both cases, the aim is to try and glean personal information from the victims, a so-called phishing scam. A spokesman for West Somerset Council said: "If someone receives a call that causes any concern they should let us know and report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040. "An official caller from the council would suggest a resident who is uncertain about their credentials contacts the authority to ensure the call is genuine." Minehead Town Council has already reported a number of incidents to the police.
