PARISH councillors in Williton want local MP Rachel Gilmour to raise concern at Government level over a lack of transparency in the sale of Somerset Council-owned buildings in the village.

West Somerset libraries continuing to offer free winter coat exchange They asked Mrs Gilmour to speak to Local Government Minister Jim McMahon about the issue following an insufficient response from Somerset Council leader Cllr Bill Revans.
The unitary authority is selling Williton’s public library, children’s centre, and Beckett House to raise funds as it tries to avoid becoming bankrupt.
But Williton councillors said they were built with public funds and they criticised the Somerset authority’s lack of communication with the parish.
Councillors complained they had not even been informed of a two-week closure of the library while it was relocated to nearby West Somerset House.
