THE much-talked about Clanville Road car park site in Minehead could be sold off by West Somerset District Council in a bid to make money from "underused assets".

A plot of land alongside Ellicombe Roundabout, in Minehead, has also come in for scrutiny as a way of generating revenue from capital resources.

The district council had hoped to build new headquarters on the Clanville Road nursery site, but had to shelve the plans when it was out-bid for the nearby Carlton Plume of Feathers public house.

Now councillors are being asked to consider the option of raising much-needed money from the sale of the site.

Chief executive Tim Howes said no plots of council-owned land were being marketed just yet.

"We have a duty to look at all of our assets, including Clanville, which we know is underused," he said.

"We have to see if they are being put to the best use or not."
