A COOL, grey day hung over Cutcombe Fete with its produce and flower show on Saturday, August 6, yet it still raked in some £4,000. The fete was opened by Mike Weaver and Joan Hockin who until last August ran the Rest and Be Thankful Inn in the village. Beforehand, Mike and Joan had opened the new under-fives playground, aided by a large group of small children. Mike presented the various cups and trophies to the winners in the flower and produce show. Flowers were presented by Ellie and Harry Hirst to their grandparents. After all the fun of a traditional village fete, including a very successful dog show, the afternoon ended with a grand auction by Peter Huntley of the show exhibits plus a number of gift items. The amount taken on the day is in the region of £4,000, including £755 from the draw and the record amount of £1,600 from the auction.
