SIR — After months of complete absence of starlings, at least in ours and neighbouring gardens, an invasion of dozens took place on Monday. It was obviously made up of families with young who called continually to be fed. There has been a constant buzz of activity and, at 5pm, there was no sign of them leaving. A welcome sight to see that they are still breeding successfully. Does anyone have an explanation? Ken Cordingley, Catwell, Williton.
