I am prompted to add my concern and sadness at the sale of the livestock at West Somerset College’s farm.
As a now ex-customer, I can vouch for the excellence of the meat and poultry and the most efficient running of this facility by farm technician Sophie Stevens.
To me it looks like a well-contrived plan by Bridgwater College to take the excellence away from Minehead and invest in the Bridgewater area, and I feel extremely sorry for any local students who were refused a horticultural/agricultural course.
I sincerely hope there is a revival of livestock in the near future.

This is a matter of inclusion, a matter of common sense and a matter of promoting environmentally-friendly travel .
This does not mean the steam trains cannot run as well, in partnership with the proper train service to Taunton. However ,the line has to serve the needs of the local community too, because that’s what it was built for in the first place.
Where I come from in Ghana, we made the mistake of abandoning most of our railways some years ago and now it is too late to bring them back.
Most of the people back in Ghana would give their right arm to have a fully-maintained railway on their doorstep and would find it unbelievable that we here in this corner of England are in the fortunate position of having such a railway but use it solely as a heritage attraction and not for its intended purpose.
Think of the benefits to the local shops and businesses if there was a proper train service into Minehead working in partnership with the steam trains.
Thousands of people travel in to other local seaside towns like Weston-super-Mare and Torquay by rail every week and no doubt similar extra numbers would travel to Minehead every week if they could get here by train.
Remember. it’s all about inclusion – not everyone wants to drive long distances and many can’t anyway, like the disabled, the elderly, youngsters and those who simply can’t afford to run a car.
