HIGH achieving West Somerset teenagers set a new record yesterday (Thursday) after notching up the best GCSE results in their schools' history. The West Somerset Community College celebrated an impressive 46 per increase over the past five years in the number of students with five or more passes at grade C or higher and smashed last year's record breaking results. A total of 61.5 per cent of youngsters - 200 in total - achieved five A* to C passes, compared to 56 per cent last year. And at Kingsmead in Wiveliscombe, 69 per cent of the 153 year 11 students obtained five or more of the top A* to C grades. Both the college and Kingsmead said the results were the best on record.
