SEASONED fundraiser Kelly Creech endured 50mph winds and freezing temperatures for her latest charity challenge.

Kelly and her friend Katy Brown – both from Porlock – completed a sponsored walk up Glastonbury Tor.

But to add an extra challenge, the pair undertook the fundraiser at midnight, dressed in 'onesies.'

Fittingly, they dressed as night-time animals – an owl and a bat.

And they raised just over £1,621 for St Margaret's Hospice in memory of Kelly's close friend Jean Cox, also from Porlock, who died in January.

Kelly and Katy had plenty of support for their money-spinning stunt, including from members of the Harley Davidson Club of Somerset, who met them in Bridgwater and led them in a procession to Glastonbury ahead of the midnight walk.

"All day whilst walking around Glastonbury we had been hearing tales of how windy and rough it was up the Tor so we were both curious as to how bad it would be at midnight," said Kelly.

"It turned out we were up against 50mph winds and 20 feet from the top Katy got blown over – that's how bad it was and that's when we realised what we were in for.

"I have never felt wind like it – you could hardly stand.

"We stayed up there for 40 minutes and it was so cold our faces went numb."

Whilst posing for a photo, a gust of wind whistled through the landmark 15th century tower with such force that Kelly was taken off her feet, flying through the door of the building.

But Kelly said the reasons for undertaking the walk far overcame the tough conditions.

Kelly is no stranger to fundraising, having completed a series of events from sponsored swims in fancy dress to snapping pics for a charity calendar.

But she said the Glastonbury challenge was her record fundraiser.

"It surpassed our target and has overwhelmed us," she said.

"It says a lot about the hospice and about how much Jean was loved and respected, as well as a lot about Porlock as a community."

Kelly said she and Katy wanted to thank everyone who had supported them, from the bikers to Kelly's employers Costcutter Porlock Fayre who always allow her to have a collection point in the shop.

However, Kelly is now promising to lie low on the fundraising front until spring next year: "I have an idea up my sleeve already," she said.
