SIR — After everything that has been said about Minehead Football Club lately, I would like the opportunity to clarify recent events and to make it clear exactly where the club is heading.

It was decided at an open meeting in April to withdraw our resignation from the Western League and look outside the area for a manager with the expertise necessary to coach our local players and bring in a handful of new players to strengthen the side.

We have been immensely fortunate to appoint Robert Boyd, son of the club's most successful ever manager, and Gary Hillard, who both live in Bristol.

They have impressive coaching qualifications, motivational and organisational skills, and above all have already shown a remarkable passion for our club.

The pair will assess local players at pre-season training and friendly matches and bring in Bristol-based players to strengthen positions where they feel it is needed.

Neither of the managers will be paid, nor will any players.

Every local player wanting to play Western League football will be given every opportunity to impress and earn a place in the side.

We are hoping to announce a new director of football who will bring his own exceptional football knowledge to the table in the next few days. Again a voluntary position.

An important question being raised around the town is: "Why are they doing it?". The answer is simple. Like the rest of us involved, they all have the Minehead "Bug" and want to help wake up a sleeping giant.

Players from our first and second teams have met Robert and Gary and cannot wait for next season to start.

In two short weeks, the future has become something to greatly look forward to. I cannot believe the change it has made to the atmosphere in the camp.

We are also thrilled to announce that respected local player Steve Wild will be running the reserve team and looking for promotion to Division One of the Taunton and District Saturday League.

An Under 18 team will come into play, initially playing friendly matches before entering the Somerset FA Youth League in 2010.

Whilst no one is being paid, outgoings will increase with the added transportation and training costs.

To help combat this we have appointed Mark Jenkins as business development manager who will re-market the club on a commission-only basis.

Mark has extensive experience in his field and has made a big impact on Exeter City and Torquay United where he holds the same position. His expertise will give us a wider range of commercial sponsorship opportunities.

Clara Lawrie, who runs a community media business in the town, has agreed to become our sponsorship co-ordinator and a new website is currently being discussed.

This may seem like we already have a full side, but there are plenty more positions to be filled.

Our groundsman has retired, and whilst he can still offer help, we need somebody to head up our pitch (and premises) maintenance team.

Next season we will be providing hot food before and after matches and would love to hear from anyone keen to help.

Next season will be on us in a flash. Now is the time for local football fans to get their teeth, instead of their claws, into the club.

Together we can do this. Let the revolution commence.

Brian Walder,

Chairman,

Minehead Football Club.
