PENSIONERS from residential and nursing homes across Minehead enjoyed some early Christmas cheer at a special party in the town.
At least 100 people from nine homes turned up for some festive fun at a celebration staged by West Somerset College students.
The party, an annual event, was organised by the college's year 11 CoPE - Certificate of Personal Effectiveness - group and planning had begun in September.
Community transport scheme ATWEST Accessible Transport brought the guests to the party and found themselves being videoed by one of the college's senior student leaders who is collaborating with the organisation to produce a promotional video.
Food played an important part in the party's success and this year Lee Bonar worked with college catering manager Penne Knight to organise a buffet lunch for the guests and their carers.
A team of year 12 students kept everyone topped up with tea and coffee, while the team of waiters and waitresses was made up of year 11 pupils and senior student leaders.
They also acted as guides when the guests arrived and as the party got into full swing enjoyed chatting to the pensioners.
The entertainment, which included a bingo session, was compered by Rolando Charnock, while head of music Mark Westwood and his musicians performed songs and carols.
And in a break from tradition, student Heidi Adams became Mother Christmas to hand out a gift to every guest.
Richard Ansell, student co-ordinator for engagement and behaviour, said he wanted to thank everyone who had loaned equipment or services or helped to make the event such a success.
"And thanks goes to all the staff and students who helped to enable the party to run so smoothly," he said.
