THERE were mops for girls and swords for boys at the West Somerset First Schools' Country Dancing Festival at Cleeve Abbey on Saturday.

Boys from Old Cleeve School entertained with the Flamborough Sword Dance while a mop dance was performed by girls from Cutcombe.

Various other dances were also performed by children from the five other schools taking part - Crowcombe, Minehead First, Timberscombe, St Peter's in Williton and St Dubricius', Porlock.

Parents and teachers from Old Cleeve School, which hosted the event, were among the musicians led by Brian Heaton. The caller was Brian Crudge, headmaster of Thurlbear School, Taunton.

Pictured are mop dancers Lucy Pugsley, Christine Stephens, Fiona Escott and Georgina Scott.
