THE parents of Tim Chilcott, Sylvia and Fred, issued a moving statement after seeing the 16-year-old youth and Sean Wylds convicted of the manslaughter of their son. They said they had been cheated of the chance to say goodbye to Tim, but his memories lived on in the many gardens he had created. "Tim was a very loving and caring son, words cannot express the hole and feeling of emptiness which we have felt since his loss," they said. "He was hardworking, the main passion in his life was his gardening, which he took pride and pleasure in, and Tim will never be forgotten because of the wonderful gardens that he created are beginning to grow and bloom again, reminding us all of a wonderful man whose life was tragically taken away. "We feel cheated of our chance to say goodbye, it was an act of senseless, violent stupidity. "A parent should never have to bury a child and be put through what we have had to endure. "We hope the case will deter people from taking the same path as those involved in Tim's death took the night that they took him away from us." Avon and Somerset police said both Sean Wyld and the 16-year-old were "equally responsible" for Mr Chilcott's death. "From our point of view, this was a senseless series of actions which resulted in tragic consequences and it is now only right and proper that the two young men involved should be convicted," said Detective Chief Inspector Martyn Trigol. He added that, although he was sure the defendants did not anticipate their actions would end in Mr Chilcott's death, he hoped the case would be "a lesson to others".
