A BROKEN-down lorry on the notorious Porlock Hill caused traffic chaos for motorists on Wednesday. Police were forced to close the one in four gradient stretch of the A39 at Whitstones junction and Exford Road after the 27-ton articulated vehicle and trailer came to a halt on a sharp bend near the Toll Road just after 8.30pm. A spokesman for the Avon and Somerset force said bus operators had been warned to avoid the area. "Unfortunately it has caused considerable traffic problems because it has created an impasse," he said. The delays were expected to last until around midday when a recovery vehicle was due to arrive.
