WILLITON Post Office’s future could be in jeopardy unless customers rally round to help plug a shortfall of up to £700 a month, postmaster Brian Tyner has warned.
Post Office Ltd is spending £40,000 to upgrade it to main branch standard.
And with the change will come a new system involving payment for each transaction.
“The immediate effect will be a monthly salary cut of at least £500, which is an alarming prospect,” Mr Tyner said.

“Local people have always been loyal to us and I am sure when they know about the new situation they will support us even more.
“We need them to use all our services, including paying bills and council and car tax, plus a wide range of insurance and investment options.
“Increased business in the post office and shop is the only way we will survive.”
