HALSWAY Manor, the Crowcombe-based National Centre for Folk Arts, will open its doors to the public next weekend (December 8 and 9) as part of its Christmas events programme. ?
On Sunday, a morning singing workshop will enable people to learn a few local festive songs. The singing of traditional carols dates back to the 17th century, well before the Victorian Christmas as is celebrated today.
These traditional carols are characterised by simple, robust harmonies and catchy tunes. The family friendly workshop will be led by choir Leader Matt Norman. Open to all abilities. Children welcome.
There will be a craft fair on Saturday featuring hand-made gifts direct from local makers, and entertainment will be provided by musicians and choirs performing in the folk tradition.
Santa has scheduled a visit and will be in his grotto in the gardens. Light refreshments will be available. Craft fair admission free.
Tickets for the carol workshop are priced £8 for adults £3 for children. Book or find out about more on the Halsway Manor website.
