Carhampton charities including the Recreation  Centre,St John’s Church and other village organisations are £2200 better off thanks to their well-attended fete.

Spokesman for the organising committee, Lucy Parker said: "It was a very satisfying event in glorious sunshine.

"We had an attendance of more than 500 who enjoyed demonstrations of country.pursuits ranging from hedge laying to sheep shearing to spinning and weaving, plus The West Somerset Morris, a ukulele  and folk band, plus vintage tractors and motor cycles."

She paid special thanks to the tireless group of volunteers.

"Without them it would not be a big success," she said .

The raffle first prize of a Blakes Holiday was won by Lesley Pilgrim.
