VANDALS left a trail of damage running into thousands of pounds in an early morning car wrecking rampage across Minehead and two neighbouring villages. A total of 15 vehicles had their windows and windscreens smashed and bodywork dented in the attacks, which happened in just a couple of hours on Tuesday. The culprits are believed to have begun their campaign of devastation in Parsons Street, Porlock, moving on to the residential areas of Paganel Road and Puffin Close in Minehead and ending in Dunster at about 4am, where vehicles in West Street and High Street were targeted. This week's damage follows a similar spate of incidents in Dunster the previous week and Minehead-based PC Keith Wigglesworth said it was believed the same gang was responsible. Officer have been conducting house-to-house enquiries in the areas targeted and say they have received good information from local people. "We are fairly confident that we will track down the people responsible for these incidents but we would still like to hear from anyone who has any information which could help us in our investigation," said PC Wigglesworth. "We would also like to hear from anyone whose vehicle was damaged but who has not reported it to the police." Anyone who can help should contact Minehead police on 0845 4567000 or ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
