CHEQUES worth a total of £6,136.14 were presented to St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice on Tuesday - the proceeds from December’s Dunster by Candlelight event.

The handsome sum was raised despite the number of visitors being down because of very wild weather on the Saturday of the two-night annual event.

Representatives of Minehead and the Quantocks Rotary Club – the backbone of the bucket collectors – the Dunster Carollers, Minehead Lions (Father Christmas), the village’s St George’s Church, West Somerset Morris Men and Catley’s Hog Roast from Dulverton all gave contributions, and the Dunster Traders made an extra donation to top up the amount raised from the sale of the programmes.
