MINEHEAD Town Council has received an offer of £225,000 for its historic town hall – less than a month after the Grade Two listed building was put up for sale.
Councillors, who made the decision in July that the 113-year-old Market House in The Parade was no longer fit for purpose as offices and a council chamber, are due to meet on Thursday (September 3) when they will be recommended to accept the offer.
But a public notice will then be placed in two local newspapers, including the Free Press, inviting improved bids over the accepted price by at least £1,000.
Minehead’s deputy mayor, Cllr David Archer, said there had been interest from at least four potential buyers.
And he said that with the building being valued at between £250,000 and £350,000, he was hopeful the final bid accepted would be higher....
