A group of Yeovil residents can soon travel to the town centre again without any inconveniences.

Many elderly people of Windermere Close complained at the end of last year when First Southern National re-routed a town centre-bound bus service. The change meant that they had to walk a considerable distance to find a bus stop.

The bus company has, however, listened to concerns and recently announced good news for the group of people concerned.

As from Monday, February 25th, certain departures of service No.8 will be detoured to cater for the Windermere Close area. A total of eight trips per day are offered, roughly spreading from 9am until just before 5pm.

In a letter to Yeovil MP David Laws, who has lobbied the operator, First Southern National operations director Paul Jenkins says: "You may recall that the latest change resulted from an agreement with Somerset County Council for us to provide a regular link between the B&Q store, Westland and the town centre.

"I am pleased to advise you that we have now found an alternative method of serving Windermere Close, which I hope will resolve the residents' concerns. I hope that you will agree that we have tried to respond to our customers' needs on this matter."

Mr Laws commented on the developments by saying: "The residents, all of whom are senior citizens, were very annoyed at the diversion of their usual service. I am now pleased to have been told that this new bus route will include Windermere Close."
