RECORD numbers enjoyed Minehead's Party in the Park in Blenheim Gardens on Saturday - and helped to raise around £850 for the Children's Hospice South West. Organised by the Rotary Club of Minehead and the Quantocks, the event included stalls and attractions as well as musical entertainment. Friends and families took along picnics to make a day of it, while for many of the younger visitors the real highlight was a guest appearance by children's character, the very pink and rather portly Peppa Pig. A storytelling area by Blenheim Gardens cafe featured Peppa Pig books, there was a sensory area for babies and small toddlers, craft activities for older children, and a bouncy castle and giant slide. Organiser Delia Paveling said: "I have never seen so many people enjoying themselves in the gardens - the crowds just kept on coming in. "As well as local families and holidaymakers, there were more people this year that had travelled here especially from further afield." The audience enjoyed performances for a young musician competition which was won by talented young singer Jade Ely from Minehead.   Erica James-Allen from Watchet won the Peppa Pig drawing and colouring competition and took home a first prize of a family day ticket for The West Somerset Railway Peppa Pig Day on September 20. It was the second Party in the Park organised by the club and its continued success means it could well become an annual fixture in Minehead's summer calendar. "Stallholders have already asked to return next year and the children want to know if Peppa Pig will be back," Delia said. "If the musicians are happy to volunteer their services again the event looks all set to be a regular feature of the holiday weekend."
