A WINE-swigging football fan has found her way home after a Washford couple spotted an appeal about her in last week's Free Press. Vicki and Steve Binding, of Washford, thought they had seen the last of their beloved pet budgie when she escaped from her cage while enjoying the sun in the garden of their Belle Vue home. They spent four days trying to find her and had all but given her up as a lost cause until they saw a report in last week's Free Press. The budgie had flown straight to Tropiquaria Zoo and the park's director Chris Moiser contacted the paper in the hope her owner could be found. "We would like to thank you for publishing the story about our lost budgie and say a massive thank you to Tropiquaria for rescuing her," said Steve. "We only live in Washford and after four days we assumed the worst so were over the moon to hear she was safe" The budgie is allowed to fly free inside their home - where she likes nothing more than to settle down to watch a footy match with Tottenham fan Steve. "She's even the right colour as she's blue and white and was only in a cage while she was out in the garden getting some fresh air. "I couldn't have shut the door properly and it all happened in slow motion - she jumped on the perch and she was gone," Steve said. And being partial to dipping her beak into her owners' occasional glass of wine, Steve and Vicki poured themselves a large one and headed out to find their wayward feathered friend. "Our usual trick is to tempt her with a glass of wine and she was sitting in the tree talking and chatting to us but then just flew off," Steve said. The couple have now bought a padlock for the cage door just to make sure there is no third round replay having had to recapture her once before. "As you can see our wine drinking, Tottenham fan is safely home!" Steve said.
