RESIDENTS and guests enjoyed an annual summer open day in Broadlands Retirement Home, Minehead, this week.
Broadlands, which is a registered charity and non-profit organisation, has been a retirement home since 1945.
The event was held to raise money toward a residents’ fund which is used to organise and pay for trips, such as sailing on Wimbleball Lake, and entertainment and meals out.

Entertainment during the afternoon included a Punch and Judy show by Dave Milton and vintage jazz singing by Miss Ivy Belle.
Broadlands manager Laura Williams said: “We had an incredible turnout from families and friends enjoying the music with delicious cream teas, cakes, and beverages on offer.
“Our raffle was also a success thanks to the generous donations of many local businesses.”
Ms Williams thanked her team at the home for their dedication and hard work, the trustees for their continued support, and all the clients for making Broadlands ‘a remarkable place to work’.
Residents of Broadlands are encouraged to be as self-sufficient as possible and to come and go and make choices and decisions about their way of life, as much as it was safe for them to do.
The charity encourages them to keep in touch with, and go out with, friends, and to into the town to do their shopping, or attend church and other activities.
