MINEHEAD Male Voice Choir and the West Somerset Brass Band are giving a concert next Saturday (April 7) in aid of Parkinson’s support group WASPS.
There is still no cure for Parkinson’s and every day one in 50 people in the UK are diagnosed. It is a highly distressing disease, not just for those who have but for their families as well.
Membership of Williton And Surrounding Parkinson’s Support (WASPS) has grown to 50 since it was formed five years ago – and the number is still growing.
Saturday’s concert at 7pm in The Avenue Methodist Church, Minehead, marks the start of Parkinson’s Awareness Week.
Doors open at 6.30pm. Admission £5 including refreshments, supplied by Williton and Watchet Co-Op shops, and there will be two raffles including prizes donated by businesses in and around Williton.
The support of the community is very important to the WASPS. Among those who have helped are Williton Post Office, which has a collection tin, the Spar, the Somerset Farm Shop and Williton and Watchet Co-Ops. Lisa Byrne, of Barclays Bank, has been working with the WASPS to make it a success, and Barclay’s has agreed to match profits pound-for-pound profits up to £750.
