PEOPLE born on the Queen's accession day on February 6,1952, are being invited to attend Golden Jubilee garden parties in London and Edinburgh next year, hosted by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

However, invitations will not be sent out automatically and anyone who thinks they qualify for a place must apply, in writing, to the Lord Lieutenant's office at Somerset County Council.

Applications for the Buckingham Palace garden party on July 9 must be received by Diane Stanton at County Hall, Taunton, by January 31.

Places for the party at Holyrood House, Edinburgh, on May 25, must be applied for before the end of November.

All applications must be accompanied by a copy of the individual's birth certificate, with eligibility limited to those who were born on the day, who are of British nationality and who currently live in the UK.

A total of 3,500 invitations will be made available and distributed on a pro-rata basis between the offices of the Lord Lieutenants.

Each guest will be able to take one companion with them, although children under the age of 18 will not be allowed to attend.
