WILLITON Methodist Church gave people the chance to holiday at home with a packed programme of activities designed to keep boredom at bay.

Local preacher and church member Monica Sandy spearheaded the church’s first holiday club, offering three days of activities from flower arranging and card making to chair aerobics and carpet bowls.

Aimed at the ’young at heart’ the special club attracted more than a dozen people and around ten helpers and is set to become a regular fixture.

“We are very pleased with the response from local people and the success of the venture,” she said.

“None of the people who came along were regular church goers but our aim was to reach out into the community and show that we care.

“There are a lot of elderly people in Williton, many of who are lonely and this was an opportunity to try something different.”

The club also provided lunch and tea and entertainment in the form of a sing-song.

“People seemed to enjoy themselves so we would definitely hope to run this again,” said Mrs Sandy.
